THERE ARE NO ''BLOOD PEARLS"!   No need for dynamite to mine, no shafts or holes are dug, and no heavy metals are needed to refine.
Pearls are an eco-friendly jewelry choice for other reasons.  Pearl mollusk farm environments must be maintained in a healthy way, as this is critical to succesful pearl cultivation.
There is very little waste in pearl culturing. The meat is used for food, and the shell is used to make nuclei for pearl cultivation, as well as for crafts and in paint.

 Freshwater Pearls
Freshwater pearls come in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes and textures.  Round, semi-round, button, drop, and  petal are popular choices.  Red, white, and blue are available, as well as green, yellow, purple and brown ("chocolate").  Natural colors share the limelight with their dyed counterparts.

 Akoya (Saltwater) Pearls
The "queen of gems" (ruby is her king) has a lustrous beauty that is unrivaled in elegance.  White akoya pearls are a classic jewelry standard.  Tahitian pearls and golden South Sea pearls are as exotic as their places of origin.

Lockwood Jewelers showcases these and other pearls from around the world.
